WWII Wrecks
Coron Bay, Palawan
The story goes that the Japanese warships hid from the Allied bombers by disguising themselves as islands. Each ship wore a “skirt” that fanned out around it, allowing the ships to look like irregularly shaped land masses to enemy radar. But an observant radar operator noticed that the “islands” were in slightly different locations every day, and so that was that. Today, the remains of some of the ships in the ill-fated fleet make for very interesting diving for history buffs. And if that doesn’t, well, float your boat, the waters of Coron Bay offers some of the richest, most biodiverse dive sites in the region.
